The Story
I work with repurposed materials and techniques alien to the traditional repertoire. I aim to utilise these in ways that challenge the conventional understanding of arts and crafts, as well as the making process. By challenging how people perceive materials and their purpose, I aim to offer them a new way of experiencing them in innovative forms.
By creating objects and images in this way, I give them an altered life and meaning that comments on personal and universal experiences. Previous work involved using plastic milk bottles and Ethernet cables.
Recycled Genes
Currently, I am focusing on repurposing denim jeans and using a photomontage technique. This series, “Recycled Genes”, was generated over several years, initially as a standing piece featuring 23 pairs of jeans (representing the number of human chromosome pairs) as “Gene Theory”.
Subsequently, each pair was individually photographed, and sections were used to build the photomontages. This is an ongoing project. I am currently offering a series of limited-edition prints, printed as high-resolution giclée prints in various sizes.
My work is an exercise/process in gathering ideas across time, place, memory, and identity to bring new interpretations and insight into issues.
I am a member of Red Herring Studios, Portslade, West Sussex, United Kingdom.
My other website, www.trishastone.info, includes all my work to date.
